The Health Experiences Research group collects qualitative interview
studies which are published on the www.healthtalkonline.org (formerly
www.dipex.org) and www.youthhealthtalk.org websites as well as in
clinical and social science journals. These multimedia websites link
analysis and extracts from interviews about people’s experiences of
health and illness with evidence-based information about treatment
options and the condition itself. There are also hyperlinks to other
information and support websites.
The website was launched in July 2001 and has won several national
awards. The research group in the University collaborate closely with
the DIPEx charity which runs the website. Together they have raised over
£5.5 million funding for research projects from a variety of sources
including the NIHR research streams, the Department of Health, trusts
and the voluntary sector. There are currently over 50 collections on
the site, each concerning a different condition or health issue, and
another 10 in preparation as well as plans for many more.
We are seeking an experienced researcher with a track record of
qualitative research in the field of cancer. The post holder will use
in-depth interviews and qualitative analysis to study the experiences of
patients with cancer. The researcher will take a leading role in
planning, recruiting, conducting and analysing around 40 interviews and
writing summaries of the findings for the website. Training in video
recording will be provided; editing and web preparation are undertaken
by the DIPEx charity web team.
The post is full-time (37.5hrs per week) for 20 months. The researcher
will report to Julie Evans, Senior Qualitative Researcher in the Health
Experiences Research Group.
