Martin's asked a really good question here - and it neatly illustrates the
situation that content aggregators or publishers [like me] downstream of the
museum find themselves in.
Just imagine you want to scope out an iPhone service or something that mixes
and matches live data from a range of cultural data sources. To start with,
you'd want to be able to crunch ideas out for the new service having
appraised some sort of register or at-a-glance 'online matching service'.
At the moment, it's hard to see who has got what, and what subject areas,
data and content types current offerings cover. Early in the good old days
of web 2.0, we could peruse the list of mashable data sources on the lovely
ProgrammableWeb resource. Well, ProgWeb's still there, and it's now a great
way to find API's on all sorts of subjects, but as of right now, very, very
few cultural data publishers have seen fit to advertise their digital data
gold on the site.
If we want people to make wider use of our culture data in the new real-time
mobile web, then I suggest we do more work to publicise it's availability in
an open marketplace/library/toolkit situation.
Cheers in a friday kind of way...

Subject: Online exhibition builder - access to online content
Hi all
A company is looking at developing an online exhibition building space
in which people can access museum, archive and other content online and
create their own narrative exhibitions. Not a radically new idea, but
this resource may offer a slightly different emphasis.
Does anyone know what sort of data might be accessible via APIs, or any
other method? Is there an easy way of seeing what is 'available'
online?
