(apologies for cross-posting)
In 2012 CILIP will be ten years old. In 2018 the library and information
profession will have had Chartered status for 120 years. What should our
professional institute look like by the middle of the next decade? And
what's the roadmap that will get us there?
CILIP is about to embark on a "big conversation" to try to answer these
questions. The work will be carried out between January and June 2010 and is
intended to involve everyone with an interest in the future of our
profession and our professional institute.
CILIP Council wishes to establish a small Project Board, chaired by the
CILIP President for 2010 Biddy Fisher, to guide and oversee this work. This
notice calls for expressions of interest from colleagues who wish to serve
on the Project Board.
The Project Board will be drawn from the CILIP community at large: CILIP
activists who support the work of Branches and Groups, CILIP governance, and
the Framework of Qualifications and Accreditation; CILIP Members working in
a range of settings, spanning a spectrum of experience and job level, and
spanning the continuum of expertise from librarianship to information
science; other CILIP stakeholders who might add value to the work of the
Project Board.
The Project Board will have three main tasks: to scope the programme of
work; to select and support a consultant who will carry out the work; and to
guide and oversee progress, and report to Council. It is envisaged that
around four face-to-face meetings of the Project Board will be held between
January and June at the CILIP offices in Ridgmount Street, London, with work
between meetings taken forward electronically. Expenses will be paid.
Expressions of interest should be emailed to the CILIP Chief Executive, Bob
McKee, ([log in to unmask]) by Tuesday 19 January 2010, giving:
A summary of relevant past projects and experience, on not more than one A4
page. This should illustrate your previous Project Board Experience.
Values, scope and timescales of past projects. This should demonstrate your
proven, successful capability in Project Management.
A summary CV including CILIP activism. This should illustrate the breadth of
your experience and your commitment to the professional body.
A statement of how the project would be approached, describing your
suitability to carry out the project, using not more than one A4 sheet. This
should indicate your thinking on how a consultation project such as 'The Big
Conversation' could be achieved
