Last chance to nominate your collections
This is the final week to make a nomination to the UK Memory of the
World Register. Don't miss out on this great opportunity to highlight
your collections!
The newly established Register, which will inscribe archive collections
or documents which are considered to be culturally significant to the
UK, is already gaining momentum. A presentation on the Memory of the
World Programme was given to the All Party Parliamentary Group on
Archives on 7 December and nominations to the Register have already been
received from across the UK.
So don't miss out. Nominate your documentary heritage with a simple and
quick nomination form to:
* Add value to your grant funding application
* Raise the profile of your collection
* Use Memory of the World status as an advocacy tool
* Join a global network
* Draw international attention to your collection through a UN
agency
Visit www.unesco.org.uk/UK_Register.htm for further details. The
deadline for nominations is Friday 8 January 2010.
UNESCO's Memory of the World programme promotes preservation of and
access to the world's archive holdings and library collections. The
vision of the programme is a simple but powerful one - the world's
documentary heritage belongs to all, should be fully preserved and
protected for all and, with due recognition of cultural mores and
practicalities, should be permanently accessible to all without
hindrance.
Nominations to the UK Register will be considered against a range of
criteria including authenticity, rarity, integrity, threat and social,
spiritual or community significance. The full inscription criteria and
nomination documents are available at www.unesco.org.uk/UK_Register.htm.
