1.We started manually cataloguing both individual ejournal subscriptions
(which are through SWETS) and those which come with a print package
about a year ago.
2.We don't use MARCit. We have an ejournal template on Unicorn
Workflows, and our cataloguing is fairly basic!
3.We also encourage users to refer to the catalogue first, rather than
the Swets A-Z list for example. We are a membership organisation and
this gives prospective members an idea of what's available. However,
it's very time consuming and it's difficult to give current information
on holdings etc.

Subject: [LIS-E-RESOURCES] Ejournal cataloguing
We are looking at our ejournal cataloguing policy. We currently manually
catalogue both individual ejournal subscriptions and ejournals which
come as a part of large packages, but are finding this difficult to
sustain. It would be useful to hear of other libraries' experiences. I
am happy to summarise for the list.
1. Does your institution manually catalogue both its individual ejournal
subscriptions and ejournals which come as a part of large packages?
2. Do you use MARCit or a similar product?
3. Have there been any downsides from using MARCit, for example, in
terms of reduced searchability of your catalogue?
4. If you answered yes to either of questions 1 or 2, what is your
rationale for continuing to include ejournals in your library catalogue,
rather than rely on the A-Z list of a product such as SFX?
5. Has anyone decided to abandon the cataloguing of ejournals (with
perhaps the exception of individual subscriptions) in favour of the A-Z
list in SFX (or similar product)?
Many thanks,
Sharon
