Hi Sharon,
In answer to your questions:
1. We used to catalogue individual titles and key package titles but was a large administrative burden to keep the holdings up to date.
2. Since last summer we have switched to having MARCIt to add our journal titles into the catalogue
3. The main issue with MARCIt is deciding which field to match on for the initial and subsequent loads and making sure that the ISSN of the record in your catalogue matches the one in SFX, at least for the initial load.
4. We currently still see the catalogue as the first port of call when searching for resources so we prefer for people to be able to search for journals within the catalogue and then be able to link out to it using SFX as we feel this is easier for the student than sending them to 2 places for resources.
5. No.
Hope this helps.

Emma

Subject: [LIS-E-RESOURCES] Ejournal cataloguing
We are looking at our ejournal cataloguing policy. We currently manually
catalogue both individual ejournal subscriptions and ejournals which come as a
part of large packages, but are finding this difficult to sustain. It would be
useful to hear of other libraries' experiences. I am happy to summarise for the
list.
1. Does your institution manually catalogue both its individual ejournal
subscriptions and ejournals which come as a part of large packages?
2. Do you use MARCit or a similar product?
3. Have there been any downsides from using MARCit, for example, in terms of
reduced searchability of your catalogue?
4. If you answered yes to either of questions 1 or 2, what is your rationale for
continuing to include ejournals in your library catalogue, rather than rely on
the A-Z list of a product such as SFX?
5. Has anyone decided to abandon the cataloguing of ejournals (with perhaps
the exception of individual subscriptions) in favour of the A-Z list in SFX (or
similar product)?
Many thanks,
Sharon
