Hi Peter,
I was there in November, and for the first time I went to Murano and Burano,
and Torcello. They are more open and peaceful than the main islands of
Venice, and more spacious for a group of students. The cathedrals of
Torcello and Murano are stunning.
In Venice itself you could also try the ghetto areas ( near the station),
the market area near the Rialto Bridge, and Dorsoduro. The Accademia is a
must see, as is San Marco( at 10am). Also the Giardini Biennale site, and
the Arsenale, if you can get in (probably not).
Nearly all the Churches are worth a visit, in my opinion; they vary hugely.
On of my favourites is the Madonna della Salute, opposite San Marco.
Buon viaggio!
Kate Walters.
