Dear Steve, Richard and all
As one of the Brighton planning team, I'd just like to say that these
suggestions are exactly along the lines we have in mind, as the general
theme will be around drawing as a form of enquiry and we very much want as
many disciplines as possible to be represented.
I am also the visual practices coordinator for the LearnHigher CETL - with a
remit to encourage staff and students in every discipline to develop their
visual knowledge and skills more explicitly. To that end I organised the
first "BigDraw@Brighton" across the university in 2009 (for which we won a
Campaign for Drawing award) and we are continuing to actively encourage
drawing as a tool for learning and research in every subject area. You can
find out more at http://staffcentral.bton.ac.uk/learnhigher/
The snow across the southeast has made it rather difficult for the Brighton
team to meet to draw up a more detailed announcement and call for
contributions but we hope to do so very soon. We are currently exploring
ways to ensure that the conference is as interactive as possible so there
may be a number of parallel workshop sessions rather than a sequence of
papers, but we certainly aim to enable as many people as possible to
contribute in different ways. Please keep the ideas coming - and mark the
date in your diaries. We look forward to seeing many of you there!
best wishes
