I may be at risk of winning one of Private Eye's OBN awards for this,
but I think the Information Commissioner deserves credit for the recent
"Guide to Data Protection" - it is a very helpful guide.

Subject: Re: [data-protection] DPA reading
Steve,
I'd recommend both books as worth having. Some ISEB course providers I
taught for gave candidates a copy of Carey's book because it not only
includes a copy of the legislation but also the supplementary
legislation.
Nicola M's book is a handy quick reference for someone who doesn't need
a
really detailed understanding of the legislation.
Just in case you don's have enough reading already another book I'd
recommend is Stewart Room's "Data Protection and Complaince in Context".
Excellent for the ISEB DP course.
rgds,
Kevin Broadfoot
