Thank you so much to everyone who replied!
For those who may follow, suggestions included:
1. Checking the number of elements and ensuring it agreed with the number of
weights and the sumnumneigh values
2. Checking the following number to the one mentioned (so examining no. 86)
3. Running it through R to properly check if symmetrical. (The details were:
"You can double check symmetry by using R: You'll be able to do it by means
of the 'spdep' library -'is.symmetric.nb' function- and force eventually
symmetry -'make.sym.nb' function. Then you can export the result to
WinBUGS -'nb2WB' function.
N.B. To make a neighbour file within R you can read your shape file using
the 'maptools' library")
When I attempted to read in to R my original shape file it said the file was
corrupted at 1265, and the error turned out to be with the number of
neighbours specified for 1265.
I'm a little unsure why the original error message was so adamant about it
being 85, but very relieved to now have it working!
Thanks again everyone.
Susanna
