Dear colleagues and friends,

Please find below brief details of two posts at Research Associate
(Postdoc) level that Conflict in Cities is advertising. These jobs will be
held in the Department of Architecture at the University of Cambridge. I
have also sent further details in an attachment. Information about the
project is available on the Conflict in Cities website:
www.conflictincities.org, and about the Department on its website:
www.arct.cam.ac.uk/Arct/Home.aspx.

I'd be grateful if you would pass on the email to anyone you think would be
interested in applying, or anyone else who might have access to people who
would be suitable for either of these jobs.

Many thanks and best wishes,

Wendy

Conflict in Cities and the Contested State

Tel: +44 (0)1223 760119

Post 1 (vacancy reference no. GC05950)
Full-time; limit of tenure 30 September 2012

A full-time research position is available to assist Dr Pullan in the
organisation of the project, including attendance at project meetings,
workshops, fieldwork, and administration. The successful candidate will be
involved in research on selected sites in Jerusalem, in editing essays for
publication, and in assisting Dr Pullan with research on urban conflict.
The post is in Cambridge; some travel will be required, including to
Jerusalem.

This position will be most appropriate for someone with a PhD in
architecture, architectural history, planning, urban studies or urban
geography, but other subject areas will be considered. Background in the
study of cities and/or contemporary urbanism is essential; a knowledge of
either Arabic or Hebrew and an interest in the Palestine-Israel conflict
would be an advantage.

The post is available immediately with a limit of tenure of 30 September
2012, which is the project end date. Salary will be in the range of £27,183
- £35,469 per annum (grade 7 on the University's salary scale),
commensurate with experience.

Post 2 (vacancy reference no. GC06085)
Full-time; limit of tenure 12 months

A full-time research position is available to assist Dr Pullan on research
to do with the role of urban conflict in Jerusalem. Help with organisation
of the project and administration will be required as necessary. The
successful candidate will be expected to work effectively with the wider
research team and to attend project meetings and workshops. Central to this
post is: research on selected aspects of Jerusalem, including archival and
library work; interviews; the organisation of data and its analysis;
writing reports, working papers and scholarly papers. The post is in
Cambridge and will require travel to Jerusalem. This position will be most
appropriate for someone with a PhD in architecture, architectural history,
planning, urban studies or urban geography, but other subject areas will be
considered. Background in the study of cities and/or contemporary urbanism
with a specialization in Jerusalem and/or the Middle East is important. The
successful candidate will be able to work at a high level in both English
and Hebrew; a knowledge of Arabic would be an advantage.

The post is available immediately for a fixed-term period of 12 months.
Salary will be in the range of £27,183 - £35,469 per annum (grade 7 on the
University's salary scale), commensurate with experience.
