Wednesday 17th March 2010 @ National Screen & Sound Archive, Aberystwyth -
speakers from the National Screen & Sound Archive will address issues of
managing film and sound archives.
Key features:
* For people with film and sound archives in their collections
* Practical, hands-on workshops and a chance to learn best practice
* Training provided by experts takes place at 5 specialist venues in the UK
* Fee for the day (not including lunch) £15 members (non-Society members £20)
* Bursaries of up to £30 available to cover registration and travel costs
If you are currently, or about to start, dealing with film and sound
material but don't know where to begin then these workshops are for you.
By the end of the workshop you will be confident enough and knowledgeable
enough to begin tackling your collections of film and sound material.
If you already have experience of working with audio-visual material the
workshops will reinforce your knowledge, ensure you are up-to-date with best
practice and give you a chance to network with others.
These workshops, jointly funded by Skillset Film Skills Fund, the sector
skills council for Creative Media, and supported by the Centre for Archive
and Information Studies at the University of Dundee, will take place in
venues that manage film and sound material. Delegates will get the
opportunity to not only hear from experts in the field of film and sound
archives, but also to handle media and, at some venues, undertake basic
digitisation processes. The exact programme will vary dependent on venue
facilities and expertise of speakers.
Charges for the workshops have been kept low at £15 for members of the
Society (£20 for non-members) and bursaries of £30 to contribute to
registration and travel are available. These workshops represent great value
as the expertise available is considerable. After the workshop, delegates
will be able to take the first steps to managing their collections of film
and sound material, with greater confidence and a clear understanding of the
issues they face in doing so.
