Dear All,
Just to say many thanks to all those who responded to my posting about
blogs. Your e-mails were all very helpful and I was interested to discover that
there are a number of great archives’ blogs out there! I thought I’d summarise
some of the points for those who are interested.
With thanks to all who responded,
Kiri
Most archives who have blogs use them to highlight interesting items in their
collections and to inform readers (and potential readers) about developments
in the archives.
Tips are:
• always use an image
• plan in advance and keep a tight schedule
• ensure there are new posts every week, to keep the blog fresh
• keep the tone chatty and informal
• encourage all members of staff to blog, including volunteers and work
experience students
• invite comments and feedback (although this is not always
forthcoming!)
• feed into RSS Feeds, as these enable updates without having to
check the website
• if feeding into twitter, include the hash tag #archives, to ensure the
tweet gets picked up by those interested in archives

Dear All,
We’ve just set up a blog for the Library, Art and Archives here at Kew Gardens
and were wondering whether anyone else hosts a similar blog? We would be
keen to see examples and would also like to link to other professional blogs.
Any examples of blogs, or tips would be gratefully received!
To view our blog, please see http://www.kew.org/news/kew-blogs/index.htm.
The first Archives’ posting can be read at http://www.kew.org/news/kew-
blogs/welcome-to-kew-archive.htm.
Many thanks
Kiri
