Salary: £27,913 - £39,627 per annum (grade 4)

Applications are invited for three Statisticians to work on a number of statistical projects within the Centre for Epidemiology, Mathematics & Statistics. The Centre is at the forefront of research internationally into the prevention and control of cancer. We have particularly active programmes of research studying breast, cervical, colorectal and prostate cancer prevention, cancer screening and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology.
While the post-holders will have the opportunity to be involved with other activities of the Centre, the main duties of the posts include:
* To work on projects related to biomarkers in prostate cancer and screening tests for cervix cancer;
* Studying the predictive value of dense patterns on breast x-rays for breast cancer risk and the extent to which this is modifiable with prevention agents;
* Assisting the Clinical Trials Unit with the statistical aspects of design;
* Analysis of a range of trials for treatment, early detection and prevention of cancer and analysis of data from molecular epidemiological studies.
Applicants must have a degree in Statistics or related quantitative field or post-graduate diploma in Statistics and experience of working with large data sets. The candidates will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a working knowledge of statistical, mathematical and database packages. Knowledge and experience in bioinformatics would be a particular advantage.
All posts are full time, two posts are fixed-term for four years and the third post is permanent. Starting salary will be in the range £27,913 - £39,627 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, final salary pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
