Lund University announces a position as
Professor in Mathematical Statistics
Application no later than March 1, 2010.
Lund University is one of Europe’s leading universities, and is
Scandinavia’s largest institution for education and research in a large
number of disciplines, such as engineering, natural sciences, law,
social science, economics, medicine, theology and the arts. The
University has over 39 000 students and approximately 5 500 employees
located in Lund, Malmö and Helsingborg. We have a comprehensive global
network and a growing co-operation within the Öresund University
framework within Southern Sweden and Eastern Denmark.
The division of Mathematical Statistics in the centre for Mathematical
Sciences constitutes of personal from both the science faculty and the
technical faculty (LTH) at Lund University. Currently, 25 teachers,
researchers and PhD students work in several areas in fundamental
statistics as well as different application areas. Present research
areas in mathematical statistics are spatial-temporal stochastic models,
non-parametric inference, interacting particle systems, statistical
signal processing, filtering and inference in partially observed systems
with applications among others in financial mathematics, environmental
research and medicine.
Description of responsibilities
One of the major focuses of the position is extending the research and
educational cooperation with the science faculty and other parts of the
university. Responsibilities include leading the postgraduate education,
supervise postgraduate students, as well as developing and teaching
courses at both basic and advanced levels. The successful candidate is
expected to be internationally active and to generate external funding
in her/his subject area stimulating a research development in the field
of mathematical statistics.
Qualifications
The holder of the position should have a leading role in developing the
field of mathematical statistic sciences and the divisions activities,
in both education and research. Our preferred candidate should have
broad knowledge in the field of mathematical statistics with a strong
research qualification within one of the topic’s main areas, with an
emphasis on general methods of statistical modeling, probability theory,
analysis of stochastic models and statistical inference. The successful
candidate is also expected to be internationally active and to generate
external funding in her/his subject area stimulating the research
development in the field of mathematical statistics. A documented
interest and a positive attitude toward applications of statistical
methodology in science, medicine, economics, or technology is a
requirement. The successful candidate shall have good pedagogical skills
with teaching experience at different levels. Of special relevance is
