Dear All Stat,
I would appreciate some guidance on interpreting the results of the following study.
Study Design:
1. 1:4 case-control study on male, blue collar workers.
2. Cases (n = 79) were employees who sustained major occupational injury.
3. For each case, four controls (n = 316) were matched on age, duration of employment and the year of starting work.
4. No previous history of Occupational Injury in controls.
Outcome:
· Diseases assessed in cases and controls based on ICD-9 codes noted in Occupational Health registry
· Of all ICD-9 codes among cases and controls, there are 11 codes merely noted for cases (i.e. employees sustained major occupational injury).
· Each code with a frequency of 1 (Rate 1.3%; 95% CI 0.2%-6.8%), but CATARACT with a frequency of 3 (Rate 3.8%; 95% CI 1.3%-10.6%).
· Further details provided below at TABLE 1,2.
My Question:
1. Could we conclude that these 11 diseases might have the potential of being a risk factor for major occupational injury.
2. If not, how these results could be interpreted.
Your help on the above matter is much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Kaveh
