Successful Project Applications 2010-11
Following Art Design Media Subject Centre's (ADM-HEA) recent call for project proposals, 51 applications were received by 30 November 2009. The project themes for this year are based around three priority areas:
* Education for Sustainable Development
* Student Engagement
* Quality and Standards
The projects will run for 12 months, completing in May 2011.

ADM-HEA Student Essay Competition - flyers now available
"Learning to live sustainably - how can your subject area contribute?"
As mentioned in last week's bulletin, ADM-HEA invites students on UK-based art, design or media higher education courses to enter this year's essay competition and answer the question above in an essay of around 1000 words. The overall winning submission will receive £250.

ADM-HEA Media Communications and Cultural Studies Prize
The 2010 ADM-HEA Media, Communications and Cultural Studies Prize has been awarded to Dr Daniel Ashton from Bath Spa University for his paper "'You just end up feeling more professional': Media production and industry-ready personhood"
The £500 prize is awarded for the best paper analysing key issues impacting on media, communications and cultural studies higher education. The prize is presented annually at the UK Media, Communications and Cultural Studies Subject Association's (MeCCSA) conference, this year held at London School of Economics, January 6-8.

Discipline-Focused Learning Technology Enhancement Academy 2009-10
The School of Visual and Interactive Arts at Southampton Solent University was successful in their application to take part in the Higher Education Academy's Discipline-Focused Learning Technology Enhancement Academy Programme. The programme aims to support subject-focused department teams in the use of technology to enhance learning, teaching and assessment. Southampton Solent's project, Lodeland, will explore the use of game engine technologies to create immersive, interactive and responsive e-learning environments.

National Arts Student Summit
Sheffield Hallam University

The National Arts Student Summit is an event organized by students for students and will focus on the arts as a distinct group of HE subjects. This is an opportunity for students from across art, design, performance and other creative areas to discuss and debate issues of importance or common interest.
The event will be organised by the Arts Group with support from the Art Design Media Subject Centre (ADM-HEA) and be facilitated by students and staff from Sheffield Hallam University.

JISC Digital Media courses
JISC Digital Media (formerly known as TASI) is a JISC Advance service, which provides advice, guidance and training to the UK's Further and Higher Education community on:
* Creating digital media resources specifically still images, moving images and sound resources
* Delivering digital media resources to users
* Using digital media resources to support teaching, learning and research
* Managing both small and large scale digitisation projects
JISC Digital Media is hosted at the Institute for Learning and Research Technology (ILRT) at the University of Bristol.

Conference: Art Schools: Inventions, Invective and Radical Possibilities

In conjunction with Noami Salaman's exhibition Looking Back at the Life Room at The Strang Print Room, UCL, this conference will explore the history and legacy of the life room, its traditions of looking and its approach to knowledge. If the seminar and group crit. have become as central to art education as the life room once was, what kind of looking and knowledge now prevail? If art school archives are full of student life drawings from a previous era, what sense can be made of this material in the context of art practice and art history today?
Proposals for papers exploring the relationship between art theory, art practice and critical theory in art schools from the sixteenth century to the present day from a theoretical or practice-based position are invited from academics, curators and artists.

Annual Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Conference

History, Politics, Cultures, Languages, Media, Society, Music, Business, Philosophy, Theology, Geography, Environment and Law
The conference will encourage postgraduate researchers to turn their own understandings of Europe inside out. It will examine the role of internal and external actors and factors - and the interplay between these forces - in the historical, current and future development of Europe's structures, practices, meanings and identities.
This conference will bring together postgraduate researchers from a variety of disciplines with the specific aim of learning from other academic approaches and sharing their own. We will encourage an open-minded exchange of ideas about topics we often consider to be embedded in our own research contexts.
Attendance and the conference dinner are free of charge.

DPR9: Trust
9th Discourse, Power, Resistance Conference

DPR9 looks at what happens when trust is lost. They ask why this happens, why it matters and what can be done to recover our trust in ourselves, our colleagues, managers, policy-makers, teachers, learners and health care and social services professionals. They look at trust and distrust in institutions and communities across cultural, social and racial boundaries.
The conference also confronts the controversy between qualitative and quantitative research methods, politically fraught and epistemologically contested, threatening to undermine trust in research findings.
New Call for Papers
The conference team have been impressed by the large number of excellent abstracts submitted in response to the earlier Call for Papers. With further abstracts being received daily, they have now redesigned the programme to accommodate more presentations. They would encourage colleagues wishing to submit abstracts for consideration to send them as soon as possible.
