No such thing as PPS any more. The process is now called 'Staged
Rollout' and applies to all new releases. Based on the philosophy that
it would be mad to have 300 sites all install a new release at once and
the experience of a couple of bad releases last year (eg BDII) where
bugs were not found in testing the idea is that sites install new stuff
in waves. It has all supposed to have been thoroughly tested and is
ready for production. For SCAS and GLEXEC/WN the first wave has happened
at about a dozen sites including Glasgow and it is now (November)
thought appropriate for wider deployment.
Ignore the fact that this page is on the old PPS web, that's just
laziness.

If we take responsibility ourselves for UK rollout, then we should also
stage the UK rollout. This was behind Jeremy's plan that each T2 (and
the T1) deploy scas and glexec for testing at one site. Not all T2s have
delivered though so it is good if other sites step up but you should
discuss with your T2 coordinator, Duncan.
I see deploying this in production now as low risk as SCAS is a new
service only used by glexec and glexec itself is only used by a
conscious decision of the application/pilot job. Until the experiments
start using it this stuff should just sit there quietly.
There was a misconception that lcg-CE needed to be configured to use
SCAS once the latter was deployed. This is wrong. This mode of working
has never been certified and should NOT be attempted. SCAS just needs to
use a shared gridmapdir so that a user gets the same uid/gid as they
would get from glexec on the CE.
Good luck,
John
