Hello
I would generally like to ask how people started working as archivists.
I currently volunteer at the Royal Geographical Society and at the Topolski Century
Gallery as Digital archivist. In both organizations my duties include digital recording,
cataloguing and keywording. I have a degree in BSc (Hon) Photography and Digital
Imaging and in my studies I concentrated on subject of digitization workflow and how to
create archives of any type of document.
But even though I believe I have got the right knowledge and skills I have real trouble
finding a permanent position and often places seem to ask for an official qualification as
Archivist rather then related areas.
So in general it would help if I could understand which route people took to become
archivist. Did you do a formal qualification or internship or did you just slip into it?
Any info would help me a lot so I could find away into full time work as archivist as I
really enjoy working in this area.
Thanks,
Irina
