ALFRED GILLETT TRUST
Archives of Clarks Shoes & the Clark family
Archivist/Archive Manager
Salary £27,000 - £30,000
A rare opportunity to make your mark in the development of a unique business and family archive; we are looking for someone with initiative and enthusiasm for the business and family archive environment.
C & J Clark Limited (Clarks Shoes) and members of the Clark family have entrusted their archives to the Alfred Gillett Trust which is consequently seeking to appoint a permanent archivist to fulfil a new and challenging role. The trust was established to ensure that the extensive records collected from within the company and from members of the Clark family since 1825, are suitably conserved and maintained. The letters, documents and shoes form a world class cohesive collection of which we are very proud.
You will be managing a small team and will have full responsibility for managing and developing the systems used to enable proper access to and maintenance of the archives.
You will have had previous archival employment, excellent cataloguing and editorial skills and the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines. Interpersonal skills will also be key in relationship building, as will your ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally. You will use your previous experience of working with a computerised archival management system to help maintain the current in-house system but probably to use your knowledge to help implement a new system in the future (CALM).
The successful applicant will have a recognised post-graduate qualification in archives and records management and have at least two years post-qualification experience. If you feel you are self-motivated and enthusiastic with the aptitude and experience to develop and conserve this important archive, we would like to hear from you.
