Job Vacancy - British Antarctic Survey - Temporary Assistant Archivist
The British Antarctic Survey (BAS), part of the Natural Environment
Research Council, aims to undertake a world-class programme of scientific
research, and to sustain for the UK an active and influential regional
presence and a leadership role in Antarctic affairs.
The BAS Archives Service, which holds records reflecting all aspects of the
Survey's activities since its origins in the 1940s, is currently seeking an
Assistant Archivist to join our small team. This is a temporary position,
funded until Dec 2010.
Duties will include appraising business files, cataloguing and catalogue
checking of scientific records, processing accessions, listing records and
dealing with enquiries from members of staff and the public under the
general direction of the Archives Manager.
We are looking for an enthusiastic person who enjoys communicating their
work to colleagues. You will have a postgraduate qualification in archives
administration, working knowledge of archival cataloguing software and good
communication skills. Previous experience of working in an archive office
would be an advantage, as would some background knowledge of science and
Antarctica.

looking for someone to start in April 2010 for a duration of 8 months.
Salary will be in the range of £19,540 to £23,150 per annum pro rata. You
