Applications are invited for a full-time, post-doctoral, Research
Associate to provide methodological support (study design, planning,
administrative support, database management, data collation and
analysis) to one of the clinical themes (the Adult Theme) within the
NIHR CLAHRC (Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research
and Care) for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The main focus is a
longitudinal, prospective study of the careers and experiences of men
and women who are referred to local specialist health and social care
services for people with intellectual disabilities or a national
neurorehabilitation service for people with acquired brain injury but
the post-holder will also be involved with other clinically-relevant
research studies relating to these populations carried out under the
aegis of the Adult Theme.
The post would suit a statistician, health services research
methodologist, or quantitative psychologist with an interest in applied
statistics, psychometrics, data management and analysis. The post-holder
will be expected to provide biostatistical and/or psychometric support
to the longitudinal prospective study, and to the principal
investigators on other studies. This will involve the analysis of
existing and accumulating datasets, dataset administration, instrument
evaluation, sample size planning, and multilevel modelling of
longitudinal data. It is expected that the post-holder will contribute
to applications to ethics committees, and produce statistical reports
for internal study planning and review, external dissemination, and for
funding bodies. Excellent communication skills are needed to support
dissemination to lay, clinical, and research audiences.
The post is being created within the Cambridge Intellectual and
Developmental Disabilities Research Group (www.CIDDRG.org.uk), a
friendly and thriving inter-disciplinary group, based in the Department
of Psychiatry, and led by Professor Anthony Holland. The post-holder
will work with the CLAHRC Adult Theme team, which comprises academic
clinicians, academics, clinical researchers, and clinicians.
The post is available from 1st January 2010 and is funded initially
until 31st December, 2012. The post-holder will be based at Douglas
House, Trumpington Road, Cambridge, but some travel may be required
across Cambridgeshire. If successful, the post-holder will be required
