STATISTICAL EPIDEMIOLOGY - THE USE OF OBSERVATIONAL AND AUDIT DATA IN APPLIED HEALTH RESEARCH
Dr Paul Baxter
Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, University of Leeds
Abstract:
Making improved use of routinely recorded patient data for research (e.g. by linking together different data sources, whilst respecting issues of confidentiality and consent) is at the heart of the NHS Connecting for Health "Research Capability Programme" (see http://www.connectingforhealth.nhs.uk/systemsandservices/research). In this talk I will describe some of the statistical challenges posed by such non-randomised data, illustrated by our experience at Leeds of working with the Myocardial Ischemia National Audit Project (MINAP) Database, the Vascular Society's National Vascular Database (NVD) and the Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust's Stroke Database.
All are welcome to attend.
Tea/Coffee and Biscuits will be served from 15.30.
