A Medical or Applied Statistician is required to help analyse and interpret
the wealth of data that is emerging from a pan-European study of the
interplay of nature and nurture in causing heart attacks ("EPIC-Heart").
This exciting new study will be based on information derived from more than
500,000 individuals on dietary and lifestyle patterns, genetic variation and
a range of biochemical measurements. In addition to analysing this data, you
will be involved in producing a number of scientific publications, which are
likely to be of high impact. You will have the opportunity to assist the
Management Team with the coordination and conduct of the study, as well as
the chance to work on other projects within the group such as the Emerging
Risk Factors Collaboration, which involves data from over 1.2 million people
in over 110 prospective studies, and the Pakistan Risk of Myocardial
Infarction Study, which is recruiting 40,000 participants.
The post will be based in the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Unit, a dynamic,
interdisciplinary group at the forefront of research into the genetic,
biochemical and lifestyle causes of cardiovascular disease.The appointment
will be at either Research Associate or Research Assistant Level, depending
upon experience.This post would be ideal for new or recent post-graduates
with an interest in developing and advancing their analytical skills in the
context of large-scale epidemiological research.
You will have a relevant qualification, such as a postgraduate degree in
Statistics and will be able to demonstrate high-level report writing and
presentation skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills.You
will require excellent quantitative ability and be able to work
independently, accurately judge priorities and work to tight deadlines.
