Michael,
If spm8 is not loaded in the directory /Applications/spm8, then you can
change your code to reflect the new fixed location of your SPM path. To see
where SPM is installed, you can type this at the MATLAB prompt:
which spm
Alternatively, to avoid changing your code, you may want to create a
symbolic link /Applications/spm8 that points to the real spm8 location.
However, as recently mentioned on the list, this may cause some warning
messages on start-up and so may not be recommended.
To access the template without reference to its fixed location, you could
use a generic command like this:
f = fullfile(spm('dir'), 'tpm', 'grey.nii');
