Postdoctoral position in computational molecular spectroscopy and kinetics
with applications to atmospheric chemistry at the University of Helsinki,
Finland
A postdoctoral position is available in the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry
for up to four years starting January 1st 2010. The salary is 3000 - 3400
euro per month depending on the experience. The successful candidate is
expected to carry out computational research in the fields of molecular
spectroscopy and kinetics with applications in atmospheric chemistry. We are
particularly interested in molecular complexes of atmospheric importance
(water dimer, water trimer and various complexes involving water monomer)
and chemical reactions. For our spectroscopy work of atmospheric relevance
see J. Phys. Chem. A 112, 6305-6312 (2008), 112, 7439-7447 (2008), 113,
7133-7137 (2009) and 113, 9124-9132 (2009), and for kinetics see J. Phys.
Chem. A 108, 4232-4238 (2004), 109, 5375-5381 (2005) and 112, 7391-7401 (2008).
The Helsinki computational chemistry/molecular spectroscopy (Prof. L.
Halonen) and kinetics groups (Dr. R. Timonen) have excellent computational
and experimental facilities, and are part of the Finnish Center of
Excellence in Computational Molecular Science. We consist of about 15
people. Our laboratory is located in the Chemistry Department building in
the new Kumpula science campus area. Helsinki, being the capital of Finland,
is a vibrant city that offers many cultural events all year round. Finland
is particularly attractive due to its wild nature, which includes tens of
thousands of lakes and islands. There are excellent opportunities for both
summer and winter sports activities.
