Department of Geography Durham University
Some new insights into health inequalities
Professor Paul Boyle
University of St Andrews
9th December, 2.00 - 4.00pm
Room W007, Department of Geography, Science Site, Durham University
Chair: Dr Clare Bambra
Prof Paul Boyle is Professor of Human Geography at the University of St
Andrews. His research interests fall within population and health geography,
with many projects looking at issues which intersect both these themes. He
has published on migration issues, including the influence of family migration on
women, on health issues, including health inequalities and the clustering of
disease, and on the intersection between demographic and health issues
particularly on the links between migration and health. He is Director of the
ESRC funded Scottish Longitudinal Studies Centre and he has overseen the
establishment of the Scottish Longitudinal Study. This major resource links
data from various routine administrative sources for around 5.3% of the
Scottish population and is one of the largest studies of its type in the world.
In this seminar, Prof Boyle will outline new research on area level health
inequalities and deprivation with a particular focus on the results of
longitudinal studies.
The seminar will be preceded by a light lunch buffet from 1pm.
