By way of a brief introduction I am a library assistant with Liverpool
Libraries (4 years now, still not a qualified librarian alas, though a broad
background otherwise including software technology). I am also
the person behind the Library Web http://libraryweb.info website. I have
been asked to write an article on the application of Web 2.0 technologies to
Reader Development, and have in the first instance set about understanding
the concept of Reader Development in as much depth as I can grasp, and have
also set about an understanding of the ends of the libraries of which Reader
Development is a servant.

Any comment on whether the attached draft diagram is a fair representation
of Reader Development and at a high level of abstraction would be much
appreciated (I'll post any feedback back to the list). There is much not
included on the diagram (there is only so much that can be got on a single
page, so I have kept things to illustrations of a few key concepts) and
practical application is not covered at all (ref. 'The reader-friendly
library service' Riel et al for this, a book stuffed full of good ideas of
which I'm only beginning to scratch the surface - a good abstract
perspective and understanding though I would argue is a good starting point
for a manager to be creative in addition to real-world examples).
