Thanks so much for the link to UK coverage of this initially local incident which I first
witnessed on TV. It appeared to be a different off-duty cop with a gun when first
screened on (perhaps) FOX News, but then the second candidate made his appearance.
The UK account provided better detail than those I witnessed on TV yesterday, though I'd
like to add that this incident comes on the heels of the arrest of another DC police officer
for murder. Washington DC is still a police state and whenever there's an official holiday
or event as well as any unscheduled but relatively extraordinary happening, I stay in.
Even Friday and Saturday nights are risky, and those officially keeping the peace are the
biggest danger.
