Dear colleagues,

apologies for the impersonal mass mailing. I am organising an
international event for early career researchers developing experimental
audio, visual and site-specific research methods. I hope this will be of
interest to some of you, or people you may be working with.

Further information below and also at www.michael.gallagher.co.uk

Please circulate via your own networks where appropriate.

Regards,

Dr. Michael Gallagher, University of Edinburgh

*Experimenting with Geography: See-Hear-Make-Do*
*Call for participants*

'Experimenting with Geography: See-Hear-Make-Do' is an event dedicated
to developing a diverse range of craft skills associated with audio,
visual and site-specific methodologies.

Applications are invited from early career researchers and PhD students
to participate in this ESRC-funded International Training School.

'Experimenting with Geography: See-Hear-Make-Do' will take place at the
University of Edinburgh, May 3rd-7th 2010. It will involve hands-on
practical workshops led by leading academics and creative practitioners
from the sonic and visual arts. The event is designed to create an
international network for methodological experimentation.

We are looking for early career researchers and PhD students from human
geography and cognate areas across the social sciences who:

* Have an emerging creative research practice using innovative audio,
visual or site-specific practices to address issues of relevance to
human geography (defined broadly)

* Can provide some evidence of this practice (e.g. websites, images,
audio, video, textual documentation)

* Can commit to attending the full week of activities, and to making
posts on an online forum before and after the event

We define 'early career researcher' as someone within 6 years of
completing a PhD, excluding any career breaks.

We are able to provide full funding for travel and accommodation for
around twenty participants. We have unfunded places for a further ten
participants.

We welcome applications from all countries worldwide. Participants will
need reasonable proficiency in spoken English.

Though the event will have a broadly geographical orientation,
addressing questions of space, place, habitat, community and landscape,
we welcome applications from across the social sciences, including
anthropology, cultural studies, anthropology, architecture and sociology.

Further information is available at http://michaelgallagher.co.uk/

If you wish to apply, please download the application form:

http://www.michaelgallagher.co.uk/EwG-ApplicationForm.doc

Fill in and return by *Friday 15th January 2010* by email to:

see-hear-make-do [at] ed [dot] ac [dot] uk

If you have been successful, we will notify you by 1st Match 2010.
