Dear Colleagues,
Could anyone tell me which web based Cataloguing site they're using to find
NLM classifications when recieving and cataloguing new book stock?
I have just been cataloguing some books donated to our medical library using
the NLM LocatorPlus web site (http://locatorplus.gov/) and have found that
this site suggests different classmarks to the NLM Classification Index
(http://www.nlm.nih.gov/class//).
The item I am cataloguing is the:
Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialites
Collier, Judith
2006 Seventh Edition
When I searched for the NLM classmark using the NLM LocatorPlus web site I
found that the earlier publications of this title are marked under classmark
W39 whilst later publications show no clues to the classmark number.
1987 1st Edition is W 39
1989 2nd Edition is W 39
1991 3rd Edition is W 39
1995 4th Edition has no classmark number listed on the NLM LocatorPlus site
1999 5th Edition has no classmark number listed on the NLM LocatorPlus site
2003 6th Edition has no classmark number listed on the NLM LocatorPlus site
2006 7th Edition has no classmark number listed on the NLM LocatorPlus site
2009 8th Edition has no classmark number listed on the NLM LocatorPlus site
However, when my colleague searched the NLM Classification Index, he found
it lists W39 with the instruction, "[This number not used]Classify handbooks
for the health professions in W49"
If anyone has found a better alternative web based solution to classifying new
book stock under the NLM Classification then we'd be interested to hear about
it.
Kind regards,
