EUP Announces New Developing Countries Initiative
Edinburgh University Press supports the dissemination of high-quality research and academic knowledge worldwide and has launched a new developing countries initiative to grant automatic free online access to its scholarly journal content for developing nations.
Edinburgh University Press journals are now available free of charge, in electronic format, to countries classified as 'low income' in the World Bank Country Classification 2007. EUP Journals Online detects the country users are connecting from and grants free online access automatically via www.eupjournals.com<http://www.eupjournals.com/>.
The EUP Developing Countries Initiative expands the existing EUP African Countries Initiative in which the African Studies journals Africa, Africa Bibliography and African Journal of International and Comparative Law are offered free of charge, in electronic format, to libraries and non-profit research and educational institutions in Africa.
Further information and the list of eligible countries for both initiatives can be found here:
http://www.eupjournals.com/page/infoZone/librarians/developingcountries
In addition, all EUP journals are available via two pan-publisher initiatives which will further increase the availability of EUP journals in developing countries, either through subsidised print copies or free online access:
Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU)
http://www.acu.ac.uk/lowcostjournals/mission.html
The ACU 'Protecting the African Library' scheme offers print subscriptions to EUP journals to ACU member universities at very substantial discounts, depending on the country ranking in the United Nations Human Development Index.
Programme for the Enhancement of Research Information (PERii)
http://www.inasp.info/
PERii enables developing countries to access electronic material on a countrywide license basis, negotiating with publishers, or supporting local negotiation, for proportionately priced discounts in subscriptions. Please visit the PERii website for information on the applicable countries and relevant Country Co-ordinators.
