The library tell me that there are a handful of entities (8) that do require https. This is only if you do a second login to the resource to create personalisations. While at least one of those 8 is fairly major we don't really know how many people actually do this.
As a result We're not going to do anything about this certificate expiry - just wait and see what happens.
At the moment I have other things to worry about as we migrate to using our Shib2 IdP in the next couple of days.
