Dear All,
The British Geophysical Association would like to have more
Solid Earth Geophysics representation on the Council of the
Royal Astronomical Society (RAS). We therefore seek candidates
willing to be nominated. To ensure election, a candidate
will need to be willing to do a little campaigning, to
encourage RAS members to vote, because solid-Earth geophysicists
are a minority of RAS membership. There is no designated
seat for solid-Earth goephysicists, and a Council member
will serve the RAS as a whole, but we are keen to have views
and knowledge of solid-Earth geophysics represented at Council
level.
The deadline for nominations is
***Friday 5th February 2010***.
You have to be a member of the RAS. You need two proposers
who are also members: this is where the BGA can help, if you
let me know you want to stand ([log in to unmask]).
The term of office is three years.
Members of RAS Council are trustees of the RAS charity, so
you need to be eligible to act as a trustee.
The Executive Secretary, David Elliott ([log in to unmask]) can be
consulted for details of trustee responsibility and eligibility.
The nomination papers and information are available from the RAS
home page at http://www.ras.org.uk/
There is a little information about the RAS committee structure,
which is answerable to Council, on
http://www.ras.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=229&Itemid=93
The Annual General Meeting, at which new Council members assume
office, is on Friday 14th May 2010 at 1400-1545, in the Geological
Society Lecture Theatre, Burlington House.
Regards,
Sheila Peacock
British Geophysical Association.
