Dear All,
this is an issue from the continent that might be an easy fall for some
members of the GCG:
A crab specimen in our collection is labelled "Hill". I suppose that it
is from the London Clay Formation and has been swaped between the
Überseemuseum Bremen and an UK institution some decades ago.
Actually it might be a specimen of Zanthopsis leachi (Desmarest) (see
scans attached). The specimen shows stains of a yellow scum, apparently
decomposing pyrite.
Are there any similar specimens labelled "Hill" in UK collections?
"Hill" might be an acronym for a locality, possibly Haverstock Hill
(North London) or Lambeth Hill (City of London)?
Many thanks,
Jens
