All,
We are currently revamping our EBM critical appraisal process at the American
Society of Plastic Surgeons. I came across Oxford's Level of Evidence tool
(http://www.cebm.net/index.aspx?o=1025) and noticed that “Outcomes
Research” is assigned to a Level II LOE. I would like to know what the
definition of “Outcomes Research” is? I am very familiar with the popular
study designs i.e. RCT, Systematic Review, Cohort, Case Control, Case Series,
etc., but am not familiar with an outcomes study design. What are the
constructs of an outcomes study design? What are the criteria for critically
appraising this type of study design? Any insight or references would be
greatly appreciated!
Happy holidays!
Kind regards,
Karie O'Connor
