Global News
CRPD Ratifications reach 76
The ratifications of the CRPD in November and early December by Montenegro, United Republic of Tanzania, Bolivia and Algeria have increased to 76 the number of States Parties to the CRPD. Ratification by Montenegro, United Republic of Tanzania and Bolivia of the Optional Protocol increased to 48 the number of the States Parties to the OP.
First UN Security Council resolution referring to persons with disabilities
The UN Security Council included a number of references to persons with disabilities in its recent resolution on protection of civilians in armed conflict. To access this resolution 1894, please click the links below PDF Version or Word Version.
UPR Working Group
The UPR Working Group has held its 6th session from 30th November to 11th December. In this session the following countries have been reviewed: Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Cyprus, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Norway, Portugal and Albania. IDA prepared a document with suggested questions and recommendations to 13 out of 16 countries that have been reviewed (Côte d'Ivoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Cyprus, Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Norway, Portugal and Albania). Some of these suggestions have influenced the questions and recommendations made to the countries reviewed.

Treaty Bodies
The CRPD Committee adopts its Reporting Guidelines
Recently, the CRPD Committee has published on its website the Guidelines on treaty-specific document to be submitted by States parties under Article 35, Paragraph 1 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. CAT
All Concluding Observations (from Azerbaijan, Colombia, El Salvador, Republic of Moldava, Slovakia, Spain and Yemen) adopted at the 43rd session of the CAT Committee (2-20 November) include references to persons with disabilities. Click here for the relevant information.
The CAT Committee, SPT Committee and CRPD Committee held a public joint event in the afternoon of November 17th on torture and persons with disabilities. Click here to access the press release of this event.
CESCR
All Concluding Observations (Republic of Korea, Poland, Chad, Madagascar and Democratic Republic of the Congo) adopted by the CESCR Committee at its 43rd session (2-20 November) include references to persons with disabilities. During this session, CESCR adopted General Comment number 21 on Right of everyone to take part in cultural life. It includes a short section on persons with disabilities which quotes sections of the CRPD. To have access to this General Comment, please click here.
The 43rd Pre-Sessional Working Group of the CESCR Committee took place from 23rd to 26th November. The working Group considered reports from Uruguay, Afghanistan, Netherlands, Switzerland and Dominican Republic.

Upcoming Meetings
IDA Seminar on shadow reporting, January 2010
IDA will hold a seminar on shadow reporting to the CRPD Committee and other human rights treaty bodies in Geneva on January 7 and 8 2010. This seminar is part of a process that will lead to the production of a guidance document targeting national disability NGOs. For more information on the Seminar, please click here.
CRC
The CRC Committee in its 53rd session will consider, from 11th to 29th January 2010, reports from Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Ecuador, El Salvador, Norway, Mongolia, Paraguay and Tajikistan. CEDAW
The 45th session of the CEDAW Committee will consider, from 18th January to 5th February 2010, reports from Bostwana, Egypt, Malawi, Netherlands,
