Would you consider installing the OpenID extension, and perhaps even
experimenting with syndication of trust metadata for OpenIDs?
Basically this lets people log in with a URL (eg. I use
http://danbri.org/). MediaWiki can then be taught to trust known URLs
with more privileges... so it might be possible to accumulate a list
of OpenIDs known in the Dublin Core community and share that between
wikis. I'm also looking at this for blog comments; again with spam in
mind, but also as a tool for finding blogs etc of interesting
people...
