Dear All
I will be recruiting two counselling psychologists in training early in the New Year when more detailed material will be sent out. I've outlined some preliminary information below for any list members for whom a placement at Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic might be suitable and who are interested in applying earlier.
This is a unique opportunity to gain counselling experience working in the UKs national Gender Identity Clinic.
What will be offered?:
1 day per week placement at CHX GIC over 1 or 2 years counselling clients around common psychological problems as well as around gender issues specific to the service. All referrals will be carefully screened and pre-approved so as to be within the competence of a psychologist at that level of training and the experience level of the individual trainee.
Regular clinical supervision of a minimum of 1:5 hours can be offered for these approaches; systemic, CBT, person-centred, personal construct, narrative and existential. A placement will not be offered for counselling in any other therapeutic framework including psychodynamic and eclectic. There will also be opportunities for group meetings to present cases and discuss.
In house training in the field
Research opportunities either supporting existing research or trainees' own proposals. The latter will require new ethics approval though so would need to be prepared well in advance.
Opportunities for collaborative publication of journal papers
Experience providing counselling to clients for up to 10 sessions per client. These can be extended in some cases.
Experience working in a multidisciplinary team including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Surgeons, Endocrinologist, Speech therapists, Nurses etc.
Interested trainees will be expected to have experience of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer communities in a personal or professional capacity. They also need to be committed to working in the psychosexual field and/or sexuality and gender and and/or specifically with LGBT clients in order that the placement trainees are those most likely to benefit from this opportunity. Applicants need to be registered for Masters/Doctorate postgraduate training in counselling psychology requiring placement experience. Due to the nature of the placement mature trainees or those with previous experience working in a professional capacity are preferred. Application is by C.V. and covering letter to me (preferably emailed) followed by shortlisting and interviews. Consideration will be given to applications from psychotherapists and counsellors in advanced training at Masters or Doctorate level.
Kind Regards
Penny
