Archaeologist (Finds Specialist) - Permanent
Band C: £24,168 - £26,972 pro annum
We require a Finds Archaeologist to work with our Archaeological Projects team, part of English Heritage's Research and Standards group. The duties of the post will include managing finds components of archaeological projects carried out by English Heritage, undertaking finds research and providing advice on projects funded through the Historic Environment Commissions Programme.
Our ideal candidate will possess an archaeology degree or equivalent qualification and have substantial relevant practical experience, current all round experience of archaeology over a wide thematic and chronological span and substantial experience in multi-disciplinary archaeological project and team management.
Specialist knowledge of finds of the medieval and post-medieval periods is essential, with experience in assessment, analysis and dissemination, including the coordination of the work of external specialists and substantial excavation experience. Experience of and interest in training and outreach would be advantageous.
The post-holder must be able to operate at a national level, and will be expected to contribute to the continuing development of the English Heritage Research Strategy and promoting its work to the archaeological discipline, external bodies and general public.
National standing as demonstrated by membership of the Institute for Archaeologists with competence in the area of Finds Study, particularly in the medieval and post-medieval periods or another relevant body and by a track record of publication will be an advantage.
A current driving licence is essential.
The post will be based at Fort Cumberland with the Archaeological Projects team at Fort Cumberland, Eastney, Portsmouth, but will involve travel all over England. This job is available for Job Share.
