Graduate Teaching Assistantships 2010
University of Salford - Faculty of Arts, Media and Social Sciences
Every year the University of Salford offers a number of Graduate Teaching
Assistantships (GTAs) for suitably qualified candidates wishing to study
for a PhD. Applications are now invited for scholarships based in the
School of Media, Music & Performance starting in October 2010.
The scholarships are worth £13,290 per annum per year over three years and
are open to UK/EU students.
Subject areas include: . Music: Composition (Acoustics Scored or Digital);
Popular Music; Popular and Critical Musicology; Sonic Art/Sound
Environments. . Fine Art: Contemporary Arts Practice, Contemporary
Performance/Live Art; Sonic Art/Sound Environments; Creative
Technologies/New Media. . Design: Design Studies/Design Management; Museum
Management/Heritage Studies. . Drama and Dance: Contemporary Dance;
Community Dance; Dance and Screen; Performance Studies; Live Art. . Other
Creative Arts: Television Studies; Film Studies; Media/Film Practice;
Creative Technologies/New Media and Communication Design, Cultural and
Media Studies (including Journalism). . Journalism: Cultural and Media
Studies. . Media Studies: Television Studies; Film Studies; Media/Film
Practice. . Other Media and Communications: Creative Technologies/New Media.
Graduate Teaching Assistantships offer students the opportunity to study
for a PhD while undertaking teaching duties in areas usually related to
their PhD research. Successful candidates will work under the direction of
an academic staff member on a range of teaching activities, up to 180 hours
over the academic year (based on an average of six hour per week).
Please note there are TWO closing dates:
1. The closing date for GTA applications is 5 February 2010.
2. Outstanding applications will also be put forward for external funding.
Please note the earlier deadline for applicants wishing to be considered
for ESRC/AHRC funding: 8 January 2010.
