Many thanks.
Unfortunately, we have no complex assistive technology service in East
Anglia. Community SLT ask manufacturers to demonstrate their gadgets and
OTs or rehab medicine doctors assess for ECUs in Cambs, Suffolk,
Peterborough. Social services provide simple assistive technology from a
new budget.

This is a list of iPod/Phone apps for AAC(attached) from someone else
from the US ALS-AT list, re-posted with permission.
As Andy said, volume could be an issue - a backbox amp from Smartbox, or
some bluetooth speakers could help with this... Also as Aejaz noted,
there are other handheld options around too.. Your patient sounds pretty
'complex', I imagine it might take quite a lot of tweaking to find just
the right thing - have you local services that could support that?
Cheers
Simon

Subject: Re: ipod touch as hand held communication aid
Has anyone any experience of Proloquo2go from www.therapybox.co.uk,
which runs on an iphone or ipod touch and offers text or symbol
selection and spoken word output?
It seems much cheaper than a dedicated comm. aid .....
I am going to suggest my patient (with tracheostomy, deafness, ataxia &
limited visual field) try an ipod with an onscreen keyboard to type
messages with her thumb/finger for others to read, and for her to read
emails & text: it is small enough for her to hold a few inches from her
nose....
Any thoughts/experience?
