Dear all,
I would like to ask if anybody has experiences in recovering urine from diapers.
We encountered a case of sudden death of a 7-month old female infant. She
probably died shortly before arrival to the Emergency Department. We were to
investigate for any metabolic cause of the death but no urine sample was
received. The paediatrician said the child was catheterized but no urine was
obtained. We somehow manage to find a diaper used by the patient at the
time of death. However, it seems there is no way that we can recover the
urine from the modern diaper made of ultra-absorbent gel material, even if the
diaper was heavily soaked with the urine. Centrifugation did not work. Our
method was GC-MS based metabolic profiling. Would headspace SPME work?
Anybody has any idea to share?
Regards,
Hencher
