Has flexi time/annualised hours made any difference in the public sectors as it was originally
thought it would so rather than sign yourself off sick when your child was ill you could just flex
off and make up the hours later on?

Subject: Re: [OCC-HEALTH] Sickness rates
Morning All and Seasons Greetings!!
I have worked in Companies with both extremes - one with 6 months full
and 6 months half pay, and we used to say that as soon about miraculous
recovery's once Dr half pay was involved!!!
I also worked for a Company that was just 2 weeks regardless of length
of service - I found of the two, that was far more difficult to manage.
The short term absence was greater, with the obvious knock on referral
rate - people who would have been recommended surgery but unable to
proceed due to lack of sick pay. The workforce were not the best paid,
could not afford insurances, no PMI and the morale was generally very
low.
I think I prefer the scheme where I once worked that had sick pay
related to length of service, where it builds up to 6 months but cuts
back the following year if anyone exhausts it.
As someone previously mentioned the Management style has a lot to do
with it! Good Management / HR /OH (and dare I say helpful GPs!!)
Kind regards
Wendy
