Hi All,
Many thanks to those of you that took part in this debate. I've had some very amusing suggestions of what to do with my copy, and it seems that many of you have been lucky enough to receive a copy too.
The feeling seems to be overwhelmingly that if an unsolicited book is not considered to be of academic merit, or is partisan or has an agenda, then it does not deserve to be on library shelves.
I had a really good response from Elizabeth McHugh of UHI: she suggests that I use the book as an information literacy resource ie. to hone student's ability to develop critical thinking skills in relation to information they come across.
I like this idea a lot, so may use the book in future inductions as an example of a resource that looks valid on first inspection.
thanks again, have a great weekend,
Christian
