Hello Stephen,
I recently met Sylvia Grace Borda, a visual artist, when she gave a talk here about her work with Queen's University collections in Belfast. These collections are mostly used inside the academic community but she used contemporary art to reinterpret them and made a big splash. The project was called re-COLLECT-ing and was part of Belfast's shortlisting for the Times higher education award.
She's very enthusiastic and I'm sure wouldn't mind talking to you, and I think the folks at Queens are keen to establish some kind of dialogue about their experiences. I've got contact details, just email direct: [log in to unmask]

Hello
Wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction?
I am looking for examples of projects or programme collaborations
between museums and contemporary artists. In particular examples of
collections or sites that do not have a past track record of working
with contemporary art. Rather than contemporary art galleries which
have a proven track record with the art community. Social History or
natural science collections are often more of a challenge, but I feel
could potentially be more rewarding to the museum, artist and visitor.
It could be an artists in residence using collections or something a bit
more long lasting. If you have any good case studies I would be
interested to hear from you. (Although I did like the grennan and
sperandio residency that was showcased at the SHCG ASW).
Yours
Stephen
