The Urban Transport Systems Laboratory at EPFL undertakes research on three
main complementary directions: modeling, monitoring and control of urban
transport systems. A key component of our research is to build on
observation-based macroscopic models that alleviate the fragility problems
of traditional forecasting models. Monitoring technology allows us to
observe and quantify more and more things in real time and this expands the
scope of policies and methods that can be tried.
We are now seeking one Post-Doctoral researcher and two PhD students to join
our team working in a variety of topics including:
1. Macroscopic modeling of traffic in cities
2. Travel times in congested
arterials using GPS technology
3. Hierarchical control of multi-modal urban systems
4. Location of emergency response services
These posts provide opportunities to work on existing projects, to develop
new research ideas and projects and to establish collaborative links across
institutional and disciplinary boundaries.
Candidates with a strong background in TRAFFIC FLOW THEORY and/or OPERATIONS
RESEARCH and/or CONTROL THEORY and/or STATISTICS and/or TRAFFIC SIMULATION
MODELS are highly encouraged to apply.
PhD Students: The deadline for application is January 15, 2010 and the
positions are available for September 2010 or earlier. You need to apply at
EPFL's Doctoral School at http://phd.epfl.ch/.
Post-Doc: This position is available immediately. (3 months of visa process
for non EU-citizens). Candidates can be interviewed during TRB Annual
meeting in Washington DC. Please send your application and CV directly to
Nikolas Geroliminis.
