What an amazing heat wave. Last time I can remember there were fires in
the town centre will be at the end of the 19th century. Dangerous heat,
the temperature of my carpet is 38 degrees C. I know this because one of
the grey kittens I was feeding delivered a sick 10 day old kitten to me
for treatment for dehydration and heat stroke. I have fed it dilute
kitten milk and bathed it with an ice block wrapped in a dish cloth. It
looks like it may survive. Outside, 45 C in cool shade, on the concrete
in the sun you could barbecue lamb chops.
My kitten has been spayed and so has become very maternal regarding the
litter of nine kittens the two grey stray orphan kittens delivered. So
she too ended up with heat stroke as well attempting to care for this
kitten so I had to also pat her down with an ice block and she then
recovered. Some kittens have three mothers with all kittens in the same
nest and same litter. I can't get my kitten to desert her post, stubborn
and head strong as she is.
The heat saturates everything. The ducted air conditioner has broken
down. I sit in front of a portable unit you can load with ice. Whatever,
no air-conditioners can survive this. The warranty on my lap has been
voided since I am using it in temperatures above 30 degrees C. The CPU
sits on a steady 55 degrees C.

PS I have packed my negatives, cameras, laptop and backup. What else do
should I take? A change of clothes and a towel. Oh, and medications.
What else should I pack? Fires to the west, east and north with severe
storm warnings meaning more fires.
