Hi Ian,
Can you please post the following to the NGN list?
Thanks,

Title: RA post in content-centric networking
As part of UCL's work within the EU funded COMET project, the
Communications and
Information Systems Group (CISG) invites applications for a postdoctoral
research
position in Content-based Networking. The post is funded for 12 months
in the first instance
starting from January 2010.
The COMET project aims to investigate a mediation architecture for
content-aware
networks which will take a unified approach to content location, access and
distribution. The envisaged content mediation plane will optimise
content source
selection and distribution by mapping the content to the appropriate network
resources based on transmission requirements, user preferences, and
network state.
The content and network-aware mapping will consider existing approaches for
backwards compatibility such as tunnelling and overlays, evolutionary
approaches
such as end-to-end differentiated services, multi-topology and
user-selected routing
and finally emerging revolutionary approaches such as direct content
identifier
based routing. UCL is the overall technical manager of the project.
We are looking for an experienced postdoctoral researcher in order to
initially help
running the project at UCL and eventually undertake full responsibility
for running it.
The successful candidate will work in an established research team within
the Communications and Information Systems Group under the guidance of Prof.
Pavlou and will collaborate with researchers in external organisations
through the
project consortium. Work is expected to be in the following areas:
global content
naming architectures; protocols and algorithms for locating content
based on specific
quality of service criteria; content delivery based on current,
evolutionary and
revolutionary approaches; and scalable distributed monitoring and
context gathering
for gaining awareness on network and content server state.
Applicants are required to have a PhD in Electronic Engineering or Computer
Science. They also need to have significant knowledge of one or more of
quality of
service, global naming and search schemes and emerging revolutionary network
architectures. A good publication record in the field of networking is
essential.
