Phil, Giles,
We've tried this software and it's fairly reasonable but better suited perhaps to architectural models. Not so good at "organic" sorts of shapes. Another one is 3D Software Object Modeller Pro which works reasonably well, however bear in mind that there is considerable work to be done after taking the photographs (scans) of around the object to get them stitch together properly to output an effective 3D modelwith any 3D scanning system. This can be frustratingly complex and is rarely achieved in a automatic fashion by the software. Usually you have to get involved and guide the alignment process. Time consuming and fiddly, generally! There are systems such as Mephisto, which appear to work better, but are considerably more costly. I've only seen a brief demo of this as yet but it looked promising. There is currently no simple and cheap, perfect solution, but we're collectively moving in the right direction. Not much help for your immediate needs perhaps but honest. If you want to give me a ring to discuss our tests of these systems, please do, but be prepared to try a few times. I often miss my answerphone messages.

Subject: 3D Imaging Software
We're looking at buying some software that will enable us to take pictures
of museum artefacts/archaeological finds with a simple camera and then
convert them into a 3D model which can be displayed on our website as part
of a virtual exhibition. The 3D image would ideally be rotatable by the
viewer and zoomable.
Does anyone have recent experience with such software? If so which can be
recommended and which should be avoided? We don't have a huge budget for
this.
Thanks
